The Facts - Cancer Free!

Diagnosis: One quarter-size malignant tumor
Location: Lower lobe of left lung
Treatment: Surgery & Chemotherapy - Successful!
Prognosis: Excellent
Chance of Recurrence: Small
In case you haven't heard, Rhonda has been declared cancer free by her oncologist!!!

Thank you to all the friends and family who have expressed their concern, support, and encouragement. Praise the Lord that Rhonda's tumor was found early. The process of diagnosis and planning treatment went quickly in March, and recovery from surgery progressed smoothly across April. The four months of chemotherapy ended in mid-September. Now, on to recovery from the chemo. The doctor says it may take up to six months for Rhonda to regain her physical strength, so please keep praying!

Treatment Today

Hi out there.  After skipping a week I was able to have another treatment today.  My white blood count is back up to an acceptable level so the people avoidance issue should be resolved for a week or two at least.  My red count is still low, but I was told the shot I was given to stimulate the bone marrow takes 2-3 weeks to work.  I'm beginning to think that instead of saying your a cancer survivor you should probably say you're a chemotherapy survivor!

I realized yesterday, to my amazement, that it's only been 3 months since my surgery.  I would have bet money that it had been 3 years.  It's hard to absorb all the changes that have happened in our lives in such a short amount of time.  I also realized that I'm suppose to go back to work in 6 weeks.  My physical stamina is nonexistent right now, so I've got some work to do before I walk into a classroom again.  Katie and I talked today about going to the mall to walk in the AC.  She's worried about getting her legs in shape because she's going to New York City in August and will have to climb all those subway stairs.  Poor thing!

Specific prayer requests:
good red blood cell production
continued good white blood cell count
increased physical stamina - yes, I know I have to do my part!
continued patience for David and our children as they deal with the
 added stress in our lives

Love to all, Rhonda

  2. Glad you were able to have your treatment. I know that it is frustrating to have to keep putting it off! You will have to do your walking at the mall. It is WAY to hot for outdoor walking!!
