The Facts - Cancer Free!

Diagnosis: One quarter-size malignant tumor
Location: Lower lobe of left lung
Treatment: Surgery & Chemotherapy - Successful!
Prognosis: Excellent
Chance of Recurrence: Small
In case you haven't heard, Rhonda has been declared cancer free by her oncologist!!!

Thank you to all the friends and family who have expressed their concern, support, and encouragement. Praise the Lord that Rhonda's tumor was found early. The process of diagnosis and planning treatment went quickly in March, and recovery from surgery progressed smoothly across April. The four months of chemotherapy ended in mid-September. Now, on to recovery from the chemo. The doctor says it may take up to six months for Rhonda to regain her physical strength, so please keep praying!

Notes from Rhonda

1. Humor and laughter are the best medicine. Unfortunately, I can't laugh very heartily right now.

2. ICU was a blur, mostly not remembered. David is telling me what I said but I think he's making it up.

3. I wish I'd gotten a manicure - didn't realize how much time I'd have to contemplate my nails.

4. To paraphrase a wise woman, I just cannot get my "big girl panties" on yet.

5. The surgeon was cute, but there's bound to be an easier way to find good looking men.

I thought this could be Rhonda's Top Ten, but I only have the energy for 5!!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers. Please pray specifically for pain management. These mean people keep coming in my room and making me do things I don't want to do. Deep breathing is high on the list.

Love to all, Rhonda

  1. So glad you were able to post at all! And glad to see your sense of humor is back in full swing. We need it around school whenever you are able.
Guess you are going to be keeping Brandon Backe company on the opening day DL with "thorasic issues." At the rate he is going, you will be back in action before he is.
Remember the "mean people" are just keeping you in practice for coming back to school. They don't want you to get soft.
    Love and prayers, Anne

  2. Rhonda, loved your top 5 comments. You know David is lying and his memory is lousy. Remember: he forgot your breakfast on Wednesday. Sooooo. Don't worry about your big girl panties: they are typically not very attractive anyway. Don't worry about good looking men-----you've got a good man with a small memory card and they trump good looks any day. I'm teasing David----you are a GOOD GUY for sure in my book. love Betty

  3. Don't worry you can do 5 more tomorrow! Enjoyed our short visit today! You looked good and could laugh and joke. That makes you okay in my book! David will make sure they take good care of you! Hope you are home real soon!

  4. Well I see the sense of humor is back so you must be on the road to recovery. It sounds you are going to be able to weather all minor bumps in the road now. After all of this, taking care of 7th grade smart a** kids will be a piece of cake.

  5. Glad to see your humor is intact. I know the pain is the pitts but it will get better. the more you work at it the better breathing and easier it will be(easy for me to say). We miss your antidotes at school..yuk back at it again today. My robin surprised me and flew in for my BD so I'm feeling rather Ill and will probably be off tomorrow-ha Keep up the good work and the prayers are flowing constant for good things.

  6. Rhonda,

We will be waiting for the next 5 of your Top 5. With your sense of humor, I'm sure you will think of the others. Keep breathing deeply and the oxygen will go to your brain and motivate you.

  7. It is great to hear from you Rhonda and your sense of humor. I am glad to hear about your progress and your view of life in the big city hospital. I love your Top 5. Keep laughing gingerly and take naps, lots of naps, you don't get to do that at school. Tell David to write DO NOT DISTURB while SLEEPING on your door and in your chart.

    Love ya, Sheree

  9. Hey Girl,
Glad to know you can still laugh. All that training at the "Home Ec" House should have prepared you for the mean people. The hospital has more than their fair share of mean people if I remember correctly from my stay. Do you have to blow in the little thing and make the little ball stay in the air for so long...I still do that one for old times sake. Praying for you all and knowing that you are resting in our Lord.
    Love,
    Melissa

  10. Melissa, if you still do that breathing exercise for FUN you need to get out of Lousiana. Something over there has fried your brain!
