The Facts - Cancer Free!

Diagnosis: One quarter-size malignant tumor
Location: Lower lobe of left lung
Treatment: Surgery & Chemotherapy - Successful!
Prognosis: Excellent
Chance of Recurrence: Small
In case you haven't heard, Rhonda has been declared cancer free by her oncologist!!!

Thank you to all the friends and family who have expressed their concern, support, and encouragement. Praise the Lord that Rhonda's tumor was found early. The process of diagnosis and planning treatment went quickly in March, and recovery from surgery progressed smoothly across April. The four months of chemotherapy ended in mid-September. Now, on to recovery from the chemo. The doctor says it may take up to six months for Rhonda to regain her physical strength, so please keep praying!

Sunday, Day Four

Katie is preparing a presentation for college class that she will give tomorrow, Monday, so I agreed to post today's activity.

For the first day since surgery Rhonda has been awake since before morning breakfast. We were anticipating the Aggie Women's Basketball game against Arizona State, but the hospital does not get that TV channel. We got the final score. Congrats to A S. They will go forward in the tourney.

Pulmonologist, the lung doctor, reported this morning that the chest cavity fluid taken at surgery and the CT scan done Saturday afternoon were both negative for any spread of cancer cells. CT scan was chin to thighs this time. We have to pass the last hurdle and get a similar report on the final pathology of tissue samples later this week. Please pray, specifically, for a clear final pathology report. That would mean no chemotherapy would be needed. It would also mean a lower chance of the cancer recurring.

All in all, Rhonda had a good day. She had several visitors, several get well cards were delivered, and she walked a circle around half the 11 Tower floor. Breathing treatments were also started this afternoon, every four hours during the daytime, about 10 minutes each. She is responding well to those. Overall, pain levels are now tolerable, and she is fully alert. She is also moving around much better than Saturday. She read today's paper including sports and comics.

Our weekend staff, nurse Evelyn and Patient Care Assistant Jay, have been wonderful. They both patiently answer all my 'engineer' curiosity questions. Rhonda thinks they may throw me out if the questions keep coming. (I may recycle the questions with the day staff to see if the answers are the same. Have to make your own fun around here!)

Thanks to all, once again, for remembering us in prayer.

Sincerely,

David
