The Facts - Cancer Free!

Diagnosis: One quarter-size malignant tumor
Location: Lower lobe of left lung
Treatment: Surgery & Chemotherapy - Successful!
Prognosis: Excellent
Chance of Recurrence: Small
In case you haven't heard, Rhonda has been declared cancer free by her oncologist!!!

Thank you to all the friends and family who have expressed their concern, support, and encouragement. Praise the Lord that Rhonda's tumor was found early. The process of diagnosis and planning treatment went quickly in March, and recovery from surgery progressed smoothly across April. The four months of chemotherapy ended in mid-September. Now, on to recovery from the chemo. The doctor says it may take up to six months for Rhonda to regain her physical strength, so please keep praying!

Surgery: What's a Lobectomy????

Thursday, March 26th Rhonda will be the second patient to go into surgery. The surgeon will remove the lower lobe of her left lung which is where the tumor is located. This kind of operation is called a "lobectomy". The "Patient's Guide to Lung Surgery" website on the left has lots of information if you're interested in knowing more about the procedure. By removing the entire lobe, the surgeon can be sure to get all of the cancerous cells surrounding the tumor which can be hard to do when removing only a tumor. He wants to be sure to get all of the cancer cells so another tumor doesn't form and/or they spread to another part of the body.

During surgery, nearby lymph nodes will be biopsied to determine if cancer cells have spread to them. Rhonda won't know the results of the biopsy until 3 weeks after surgery when she sees the oncologist again. A short round of chemotherapy would be necessary only if cancer cells are present in the lymph nodes. Be praying that the biopsy will be negative!

  1. Hey Rhonda,
I was stunned when I heard about the diagosis, but already see God's hand preparing you for the healing that's coming! Isn't it great to know that God uses EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to accompish His purpose in our lives... even a sinus infection! WOW!

It's been five years since my heart attack, and I still thank God that on that Easter Sunday morning, the premiere cardiologist in our area was at the hospital, in the cath lab, just finishing up another angioplasty/stent, when they brought me in. I'm just sorry that other guy had to have a heart attack for God to put the doctor and his staff in place for ME!!!

Hang in there... God has already put everything in place for us to give Him glory for what He's done and will do!

    Be blessed,
    Ronnie Hendricks

  8. Rhonda,
I had seen your name on the church prayer list but didn't know the circumstances until Jamie Williams shared with me yesterday. She gave me the blog site and I will continue to keep up with your progress. Know that you and the family and those who care for you will be in our prayers. Aren't we glad that our God is in control.
