The Facts - Cancer Free!

Diagnosis: One quarter-size malignant tumor
Location: Lower lobe of left lung
Treatment: Surgery & Chemotherapy - Successful!
Prognosis: Excellent
Chance of Recurrence: Small
In case you haven't heard, Rhonda has been declared cancer free by her oncologist!!!

Thank you to all the friends and family who have expressed their concern, support, and encouragement. Praise the Lord that Rhonda's tumor was found early. The process of diagnosis and planning treatment went quickly in March, and recovery from surgery progressed smoothly across April. The four months of chemotherapy ended in mid-September. Now, on to recovery from the chemo. The doctor says it may take up to six months for Rhonda to regain her physical strength, so please keep praying!

Friday, April10th

I hope everyone's long weekend is going well and that you're getting to do something that you enjoy. This is my 5th day at home and 2 weeks out  from surgery.  I can feel myself in a holding and circling pattern, waiting for something to break so I can move forward.  I think this probably falls under the official medical term "BLAH".  I don't feel terrible, I don't feel great.  I don't want to really do anything but I'm tired of sitting around.  In the spirit of "we have to make our own fun" there are two bright spots to the day.

#1 - Dairy Bar Sherbet

David and Katie came home a little while ago with a pint of raspberry sherbet from the Dairy Bar.  Those of you who have moved away from LJ should be relieved to know that sherbet still reigns supreme at the Dairy Bar.  Remember when the only choice was lime?  Am I remembering that right?  Maybe MY only choice was lime because it was my favorite.  Who knows??  It's still just as cold and smooth as it was 40+ years ago and our spoons made quick work of it.  Katie was polite and dipped hers out into a separate bowl - the rest of us just passed the carton around!

#2 - I have a new phone

I was eligible for a phone upgrade so I ordered one with a REAL keyboard.  I'll never be a text messaging speed demon but maybe this will help.  I decided, since I have ALL this time on my hands, that I would transfer my contact list manually.  Probably a stupid decision but certainly one that will occupy some time.  My goal throughout this "transfer of power" is to not ask my children a single question about what I need to do.  I'll let you know how that works out for me. I'm sure it will be humbling more than once!

Love, Rhonda

  1. I love the way you are finding challenges with phones and enjoying the small things in life. It has been a while since you have taken the time for yourself and so God said, "Ah, I will fix that"(he could have found another way)Oh well, you are making the most of it. I had forgotten the good shebert--may have to go get some.My hubby decided to surprise me and take me to LA after church Sunday for the night..you know, we must help the economy!
