The Facts - Cancer Free!

Diagnosis: One quarter-size malignant tumor
Location: Lower lobe of left lung
Treatment: Surgery & Chemotherapy - Successful!
Prognosis: Excellent
Chance of Recurrence: Small
In case you haven't heard, Rhonda has been declared cancer free by her oncologist!!!

Thank you to all the friends and family who have expressed their concern, support, and encouragement. Praise the Lord that Rhonda's tumor was found early. The process of diagnosis and planning treatment went quickly in March, and recovery from surgery progressed smoothly across April. The four months of chemotherapy ended in mid-September. Now, on to recovery from the chemo. The doctor says it may take up to six months for Rhonda to regain her physical strength, so please keep praying!

Home again, home again, jiggidy jog!

There wasn't much jigging or jogging going on yesterday, but it WAS good to be home.  My own bed was a wonderful place to be even if it wasn't the miracle cure I had hoped for.  I slept from midnight until 5 am, when I woke up for my regularly scheduled xray.  Fortunately, there wasn't an unfamiliar man standing at the foot of the bed telling me I had to sit up straight!  I think that's the longest block of sleep I've had since I left home, and I appreciated it.

I'm not really sure what to do with myself.  I wandered around yesterday waiting for someone to tell me what I needed to do next.  I can think of a lot of things I would like to do, but I know I don't have the energy or endurance right now.  There's a quilt block upstairs that's whispering my name but I doubt I can get past the 5th step without wheezing.  I also suspect I don't have a very long attention span right now.  Even if I made it to the 2nd floor I'd probably just turn around twice and come back downstairs.

Should I start a new observation list?  I'm not real sure what to call it if I do.  What did they use to call the daily report on radio stations?  I still remember sitting in my grandmother's kitchen, listening to the Gainesville news on the radio.  You know - who was in the hospital, who had died, who's cow was out of the pasture on which county road.  I guess it was sort of the ancestor of blogging.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know I'm home and enjoying being here.  I'm trying to adjust to a lower pain medicine regime so I'm stiff and unhappy in spots, but I'll get there.

Love, Rhonda

  1. Welcome Home !!!! Now the hard work begins, recovery. Don't you just love it when someone says something like that after all you've been through. It's like when your kids are small and their energy far surpasses yours and just as your about to strangle on of them the kind lady in the grocery store says, "Enjoy this age it just get harder from here" Love ya bunches,
    Deborah W.

  5. You made me laugh. Don't you remember they had the same type of radio broadcast on KSAM...something like Community News...who had died, who was in the hospital, who was out, we could call your "Rhonda's Ramdom Ramblings" Anything with the 3R's is good for teachers. They signed on the house and bought a washer and dryer tonight. I remember we lived in some little tacky rentals for about 5 years and went to the laudromat until Robbie was born and my dad bought us a second hand washer and dryer. O these kids today. Keep getting stronger and stronger. Someday you must teach me to knit. I mastered crocheting and needlework, but never got the hang of knitting. Quilting would be beyond me... too precise. Watch the movie "How to Make an American Quilt"...it is a chick flick but it is pretty good when you are really bored.
    Love to you,
    Melissa
